The Poon Hill + Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) Trek is an iconic journey through Nepal’s Annapurna Sanctuary. By combining two of the region's best trails into one seamless route, it delivers a rich mix of low-altitude culture, lush forests, and high-altitude mountain scenery.
Ghorepani & Poon Hill Sunrise: The adventure starts with steady climbs through stone-paved staircases, sub-tropical terraced farmlands, and dense oak and rhododendron forests. The early morning hike to the top of Poon Hill (3,210 m) provides a panoramic sunrise view across more than 15 Himalayan peaks, including Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), and Annapurna South.
Into the Annapurna Sanctuary: Leaving Ghorepani, the trail descends through deep river valleys and passes through traditional Magar and Gurung settlements like Tadapani and Chhomrong. Beyond Chhomrong, the path narrows into the Modi Khola canyon, passing bamboo thickets and alpine meadows before entering the glacial basin of the Annapurna Sanctuary.
Annapurna Base Camp (4,130 m): Standing at base camp places you directly inside a 360-degree natural amphitheater surrounded by colossal snow-capped peaks, led by the massive south face of Annapurna I (8,091 m).
Winding Down: On the descent, the trail leads to Jhinu Danda, where trekkers can soak in natural hot springs along the Modi Khola river to soothe tired muscles before completing the trek.
